Applications and Properties of Dimethyldiethoxysilane

2021-11-09

This product serves as a structure control agent in silicone rubber production, a chain extender in the synthesis of organosilicon products, and a raw material for silicone oil synthesis.
  Application areas
It serves as a structure control agent in the preparation of silicone rubber, a chain-extending agent in the synthesis of organosilicon products, and a raw material for synthesizing silicone oils. It is also a crucial ingredient in the production of silicone resins, benzyl methyl silicone oils, and water-repellent agents. Additionally, it is highly hydrolyzable, readily reacting with alkali metal hydroxides to form alkali metal silicates. Furthermore, it can be used as a crosslinking agent in room-temperature vulcanization of silicone rubber.
Packaging: Iron drums or plastic-lined iron drums, net weight: 160 kg.
  Storage and Transportation Characteristics
[Operational Precautions] Perform operations in a closed system with local exhaust ventilation. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to established operating procedures. It is recommended that personnel wear a filtering-type respirator (half mask), chemical safety goggles, and protective clothing resistant to toxic substance penetration, along with rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep away from ignition sources and heat; smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment to prevent vapor leakage into the air. Avoid contact with oxidizers and acids. Handle materials carefully during transportation to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Ensure that appropriate types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment, as well as spill response tools, are readily available. Empty containers may still contain hazardous residues.
[Storage Precautions] Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from ignition sources and heat. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 30°C. Packaging must be tightly sealed and protected from moisture. Store separately from oxidizers, acids, and other incompatible materials—never mix them. Avoid large-scale or long-term storage. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation systems. Prohibit the use of machinery and tools that could spark. Ensure the storage area is equipped with emergency spill-response equipment and suitable containment materials.
  Editor's Notes
  1. When storing, keep away from fire and moisture, ensure proper ventilation and dryness, and avoid contact with acids, alkalis, water, and other such substances.
  Temperature: -40°C to 60°C.
  2. Store and transport according to hazardous materials regulations.
  Emergency Response for Dimethyldiethoxysilane Leakage
Immediately evacuate personnel from the leak-contaminated area to a safe zone and isolate the area, strictly controlling access in and out. Eliminate all ignition sources. Emergency responders are advised to wear self-contained positive-pressure respirators and fire-resistant protective suits. Avoid direct contact with the leaked material whenever possible. If feasible, stop the leak at its source to prevent it from entering confined spaces such as sewers or drainage ditches. For small spills: absorb the spill using non-combustible materials like sand, vermiculite, or other inert substances, or, under safe conditions, burn it on-site. In case of large-scale leaks: create containment barriers or dig pits to collect the spill. Apply foam to suppress vapor emissions and reduce the risk of vapor-related hazards. Use explosion-proof pumps to transfer the material into tank trucks or dedicated collection containers for recovery or disposal at an appropriate waste treatment facility.
  Protective measures
Respiratory protection: Wear a self-priming, filter-type respirator (half mask) when there is potential exposure to its vapors.
Eye protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.
Personal protective equipment: Wear a chemical-resistant, anti-penetration work suit.
  Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.
Others: Smoking is strictly prohibited at the work site. After finishing work, please shower and change clothes. Remember to maintain personal hygiene.
  First aid measures
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soap and water.
Eye contact: Lift the eyelid and flush with running water or saline solution. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly remove the person to a place with fresh air. Keep the airway clear. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration and seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention.
Firefighting methods: Spray water to cool the container, and if possible, move the container away from the fire area to an open space. Extinguishing agents: Carbon dioxide, dry powder, and sand/gravel. Do not use water or foam to extinguish the fire.
